What is astigmatism?
Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or, less commonly, other optical structures have an uneven shape that can contribute to blurred or distorted vision.
How does a toric IOL work?
A toric IOL has different optical power in different meridians. It must be positioned with the appropriate orientation to provide its intended astigmatism correction.
Who may benefit?
Patients with clinically meaningful corneal astigmatism may be candidates. Your surgeon will use corneal measurements and other testing to determine whether a toric lens is appropriate.
Does a toric IOL eliminate glasses?
Not necessarily. A toric IOL addresses astigmatism but does not automatically provide multiple focal distances. Your overall IOL strategy determines the intended range of vision.
